Totalitarian to Egalitarian

"Pakistan’s significant efforts to restore good governance, eliminate corruption and alleviate poverty needs the support of the international community and the International Financial Institutions. I have every reason to believe that this support will be forthcoming with the new vision of the IMF under Mr. Kohler and with the support of the World Bank’s anti-poverty agenda under Mr. Wolfensohn."
Shaukat Aziz, Former PM Pakistan,
IMF & World Bank Joint annual Meeting, September 26–28, 2000

The present economic and security situation of country is the direct reflection of inept and corrupt institutions. It is becoming increasingly evident that neither the dictatorial rule was able to improve much nor the present form of democracy. If we just reflect at the last 10 years history of Pakistan, the situation has become more grimmer and shallower .In South Asia many countries have changed a lot in current decade for better or worse. It is really sad to see that much of the Muslim countries of the region lies in worse category.Although Pakistan could have done a lot better.

Stepping in the new millennium with the a dictatorial rule, like many other Muslim countries, was not the hopeful sign. However, 9/11 incident pushed Pakistan in very ideal condition to capitalise it.Uncertain conditions in west for expatriates increased remittances significantly. Becoming a key allay in "war on terror" benefited interims of dollars. International community poured a huge amount of money after the earthquake.IMF reports shows that above money sources did manage to steer country growth in positive direction till 2005.Political turbulence after 2005 again outmaneuvered this course.Since then there are no signs of going back to the road to recovery.Misgovernance and corruption are still deeply rooted as they were 10 years back.

Law and order situation is absolutely chaotic, which is the main contributing factor in present economic turmoil.Regional and local political stake holders are the key catalytic factors involved in this anarchy.City of Karachi, the financial hub of the country, has been burned and looted several time in past few years, seems ungovernable despite being all the political parties in the ruling coalition. In the recent wave of target killing 41 innocent peoples have been killed in just 4 days.Security agencies lame actions to maintain peace are being roll backed by these local political players which interns increasing the death toll to a much higher number each day. This dirty game of evil politics depicting the bigotry mindset of political elite.

People killed in these incident needs justice. As a matter of fact, all relevant institutions have shown utterly ineptness. Therefore, this would be the best test case for the judiciary to show its recently acquired independence.Certainly, it will not only increase the credibility of the judicial system and it will also become a facilitator for other institutions to act.Society where pluralism is extinct, judiciary could be the ray of hope to transform it from totalitarian society to egalitarian society.
